Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport will hold a public hearing on Feb. 13, regarding the construction of the Chattahoochee Technical College Aviation Academy.
The airport is publishing a draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed release of 2.9 acres of airport property from federal obligation and sale to the state of Georgia for the academy’s construction.
The Technical College System of Georgia plans to build up to a 60,000-square-foot facility for a maximum capacity of 100 students, training them as aircraft mechanics.
There are no longer plans to use this nearly 3 acres of vacant land for a community/airport fire station and 911 center.
A copy of the draft Environmental Assessment is available in the offices of the Paulding County Airport Authority, 730 Airport Parkway, Dallas or may be downloaded from the main page of paulding.gov.
The public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the airport’s main terminal building, 730 Airport Parkway, Dallas in the upstairs conference room.
Interested parties may submit written comments to the Paulding County Airport Authority at the main office, 730 Airport Parkway, Dallas, GA 30157 by 5 p.m. Feb. 24.
On 745 acres, the airport is in southern Paulding County a half mile south of U.S. Highway 278 between Goldmine Road and Hulseytown Road.
Opened in 2008, the airport currently includes a 5,505-foot runway and parallel taxiway, a 23,000-square-foot terminal building, aircraft storage hangars, aircraft tiedowns, an instrument landing system and an aircraft fueling system.
This information comes from a Jan. 14 memo by Paulding County Board of Commissioners Chairman David L. Carmichael and Paulding County Airport Authority Chairman (and Dallas Mayor) Boyd Austin.
