A manufacturer of paper-based packaging products for the food service industry Monday announced a move and expansion to Gwinnett County that is expected to result in 196 new jobs in the county by year's end.

BagcraftPapercon, which has been operating at undersized facilities in Atlanta, is moving its business to Norcross. The company has invested $7.3 million to renovate and outfit an unused warehouse. The 225,000-square-foot building is already in operation.

"This expansion is an extraordinary win for Gwinnett County," said Nick Masino, vice president of economic development for the Gwinnett Chamber and Partnership Gwinnett.

Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, said, "This is a longtime Georgia company, and we couldn't be more pleased that it is expanding to accommodate the needs of not only Georgia's food processing industry -- the state's largest manufacturing sector -- but of the Southeast as a whole."

Roger Prevot, chief executive officer of the Chicago-based Packaging Dynamics Corp., of which BagcraftPapercon is a unit, said the plant "will be the flagship location" of its six U.S. facilities. It will serve the Southeast market with its manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operations.

BagcraftPapercon had employed about 130 people in Atlanta but couldn't expand in its older facility. The new building will allow it to grow its business and add jobs, Prevot said.

The company has been in the Atlanta area for more than 40 years, he said, and "a key factor in our decision to expand here was the ability to retain existing employees and add new employees while providing seamless transition for our customers."
