Gwinnett Commissioners and officials from the Georgia Department of Public Safety and Georgia Department of Transportation broke ground Sept. 3 on the Georgia State Patrol Post in Gwinnett.
The 12.2-acre site, located on I-85 North between Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-985 at 55 Old Peachtree Road NE in Suwanee, will include a single story, 10,797-square-foot building designed by Precision Planning and constructed by Carroll Daniel Construction. The new building will replace the existing State Patrol Post off Pleasant Hill Road. The land is owned by GDOT.
District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks said, “I-85 is the lifeblood of my district and the county as a whole. We’re grateful to have the Georgia State Patrol and the HERO units right here in Gwinnett to keep this major artery moving safely and smoothly.”
The post will house command staff offices, a troopers’ dayroom, classroom, evidence storage, dormitory space for 16 troopers and a Highway Emergency Response Operators Unit dayroom as well as parking for GDOT’s HERO units. The project should be complete in spring 2020.
