The Norcross City Council voted recently to approve an increase in recycling services from every other week to every week. To pay for the increase, the city will also increase commercial sanitation rates by 2 percent. Commercial rates have not been raised since Jan. 2016, when they increased by 2 percent.
The city’s Public Works, Utilities and Parks Department hopes this effort will reduce confusion regarding the sanitation schedule and mitigate some customer service calls. Previously, residential garbage collection has been every week at the curb, but the recycling schedule has been every other week.
Norcross customers pay $13.50 a month per cart, with recycling at no additional charge. Beginning with the May bill, commercial properties will pay $27.62 a month per cart for trash collection, and $63.90 per month for corrugated cardboard recycling pickup.
All current residential property owners residing in Norcross who are age 62 years old and older receive free service.
