When Milton High School graduate and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Peyton Barber threw a chop block against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 24, not only did it push his team back 15 yards, but it also cost him a few dollars.
The NFL announced this week that it had fined Barber $10,026 for the illegal play.
A chop block is when an offensive player blocks a defensive player in the legs while that defensive player has already engaged with another offensive player above the waist, according to the NFL rulebook. It is illegal on all passing and punting plays, and in some instances on running plays.

Barber’s foul happened late in the third quarter while he was pass protecting for Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Buccaneers lost that Monday night clash against the Steelers, 30-27.
But Barber wasn’t the only player fined in that game. Sean Davis, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Jon Bostic of the Steelers were also fined for various penalties. In total, four players from the game were fined a total of $66,845.
So far, Barber, 24, has rushed 50 times for 148 yards and has caught two passes for 13 yards this season. Barber re-signed with Tampa Bay this offseason on a one-year deal for $630,000. At Milton, he rushed for 22 touchdowns and more than 1,700 yards as a senior before going to play college ball at Auburn.
The Buccaneers are 2-2 on the year. Their next game is Oct. 14 in Atlanta against the Falcons.
