Three residents who are passionate about bringing the theater experience to a wider audience have launched their own company to embark on this mission.
Nomad Theater Company has kicked off its first year with a production of "Godspell," which runs through June 30 at Vinings Lake Church in Mableton. "Godspell" tells the story of people who "help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing," the company said in its press release.
Nomad Theater Company is the brainchild of co-founders Kendyll Romine and Austin Geter.
Nomad Theater has about 20 people who are active in the production of “Godspell” including actors, designers, choreographers and directors.

Geter said he’s noticed a growing interest in the arts around the region and that people are “hungry” for new experiences. Nomad Theater Company’s nontraditional approach to the theater experience will bring something “fresh and exciting” to the masses, Geter said.
“It seemed like the perfect time to bring this theater (company) to metro Atlanta,” he said.
Geter said Nomad Theater Company will partner with metro Atlanta nonprofit organizations to provide audience members a way to get involved with various causes. The details of how they will do this remain up in the air, he said. With “Godspell,” Nomad Theater teamed up with Hands On Atlanta to encourage its audience to volunteer with the organization.

“As a company we are committed to creating work that fosters a closer, more loving community here in Atlanta.” Romine said. “We believe ‘Godspell’ is the perfect material to bring people together and come sing about love in a unique theatrical experience.”
Geter said Nomad plans to host some shows in the fall and continue entertaining audiences in February 2020. Organizers hope to have a full season ready to take on the road by the second half of next year.
"Godspell's performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Vinings Lake Church at 75 Cooper Lake Rd SE in Mableton. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or at the door. You can learn more about the organization by visiting its website.
