After repeated citizen appeals for a Cobb parks update over several meetings, a report was given during Tuesday’s meeting of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners to much audience applause.

Eddie Canon, director of the Cobb Support Services Agency, said

the committee will create a list to present to the commissioners by their October work session and possibly sooner.

In November 2008, 67 percent of Cobb voters approved a referendum to spend $40 million on new parks.

However, the parcels were never bought.

Since last year, members of the Cobb Parks Coalition have appealed to the commissioners to move forward with buying the land with the full $40 million.

Earlier this year, Commission Chairman Tim Lee formed the citizens’ committee to seek nominations for new parkland and review the former parks list to see which properties still would be available for purchase.
