Weather permitting, a new exit lane to speed traffic to Northside Hospital Cherokee was to open Monday from northbound I-575 to eastbound Ga. 20 in Canton, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.
“The new right lane increases the capacity of the ramp, which will cut down on delays experienced by vehicles,” GDOT said. “The new lane is currently signal-controlled but will become a free-flow right-turn lane as part of the upcoming Ga. 20 widening project.”
GDOT said the “quick response” project, completed in about two months, was coordinated by state Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta, working with the state transportation agency after constituents said a third right-turn lane could reduce travel times to the hospital for motorists and first responders.
