Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation recently celebrated National Public Lands Day at Jones Bridge Park, 4901 East Jones Bridge Road in Peachtree Corners.

More than 20 volunteers took environmental ownership of the 30-acre park along the Chattahoochee river bank and worked to protect critical amphibian habitat, by reclaiming an area from destructive invasive plants. More than 300 plants were installed with volunteers hoping to find the plants and wildlife flourishing upon their return next year.

In partnership with the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), volunteers joined thousands of people at sites throughout the country to take part in the annual National Public Lands Day. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. NEEF uses the day to connect people to public lands and their communities, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation and general health.
