The day after Southwest Airlines ordered a ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, an airline statement said cancellations and delays will continue.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, the airline said it has canceled more than 300 flights as of 11:15 a.m Eastern time. Nearly 700 flights have been canceled altogether, The Associated Press reported.

About 60 Atlanta flights were thought to have been affected.

However, there were some “recovery lines” of people who had missed flights, Hartsfield-Jackson spokesman Reese McCranie said. By midday Thursday, passenger lines at Southwest counters in Atlanta were “back to normal,” he said.

The Wednesday ground stop in Atlanta was on all flights that had not left the gate by about 5 p.m, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Other flights were delayed.

Technical systems issues were blamed. Spokeswoman Linda Rutherford said "recovery will take some time" and the airlines "will have more information later regarding flexible rebooking."
