Grants from the Milton First Responders Foundation have funded the purchase of more than $6,000 in field efficiency and protective gear for the Police and Fire-Rescue departments, officials announced.

Milton Fire-Rescue purchased 36 particulate-barrier hoods, which cover firefighters’ head and neck areas and protect them from toxic and carcinogenic chemicals present at structure fires. The cost was slightly more than $3,000.

The hoods are second hoods in the event firefighters cannot properly clean their primary hoods between events, officials said.

The Milton Police Department spent $3,244 on a Dataworks RapidID mobile fingerprint scanner, which officers can use in the field to verify identities and determine if an individual is wanted on a warrant, officials said.

The First Responders Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a volunteer board of civic and business leaders, has donated more than $67,000 in grants to the police and fire departments since its founding in 2015.
