UPDATE: The restaurant was re-inspected Oct. 24 and scored a 90/A. New reported violations included an employee preparing foods without a beard net (the beard was longer than half an inch) and failure to provide "employee handwash signs" at stations.

ORIGINAL STORY (Oct. 14): A popular Midtown restaurant failed a recent health inspection, with officials noting rotten lemons and limes stored in a walk-in cooler.

Barrelhouse, located at 22 5th St. NW, scored a 54/U following the Wednesday afternoon evaluation

Officials reported heavy grease, food and dirt buildup on the floor and heavy dust buildup on vents and the ceiling.

According to the report, there was "raw chicken stored over raw beef."

When contacted Friday morning, assistant manager Chris Jackson spoke confidently about the followup inspection.

"All I can tell you is we are being re-inspected at 11 a.m. today and we will get our A,” Jackson said.
