Gov. Nathan Deal has picked Superior Court Judge Michael Boggs of Blackshear to fill a vacancy on the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Boggs, who served in the state House of Representatives from 2001 to 2004, has presided as judge in the Waycross Judicial Circuit and founded its drug court program. More recently, Boggs served as a member of the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform. He will succeed Judge J.D. Smith, who is resigning from the appeals court at the end of the year. Children in several metro counties will receive plush Christmas animals donated by LifeWay Christian Stores customers.

Customers at LifeWay stores in Douglasville, Conyers and Kennesaw can buy the plush animals for $5 each to be donated to a local charity. Each store coordinates with a local nonprofit, hospital or relief group to distribute the toys. Other participating stores in Georgia are located in Augusta, Columbus and Macon. Their donations will benefit local charities.

In metro Atlanta, the stores are working with chaplains in several law enforcement and fire departments, Eagle Ranch and MUST Ministries. SHELIA POOLE

Kymberly Wolff  will join Habitat for Humanity International as its senior vice president of development, effective Jan. 3.

Wolff has more than two decades of experience in fundraising for a variety of organizations. Most recently, she was senior vice president of resource development at CARE. She also also worked at Reading is Fundamental Inc. and Georgia Tech.

She will be responsible for fundraising, direct marketing  and global campaigns. She also becomes a member of Habitat's senior management team. SHELIA POOLE
