The State Board of Education has pushed back a self-imposed deadline for deciding whether to hold a hearing and potentially recommend removal of the Atlanta School Board, it was announced Wednesday. A new state law requires the state board to consider recommending removal en masse of school boards in districts -- including Atlanta -- that were not fully accredited as of July 1.  The state board agreed in July to wait until Nov. 4 to see if the system could regain accreditation.  No word on that yet, so the state board pushed back the deadline to Dec. 5. The Atlanta School Board is on accreditation probation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools largely due to infighting among board members. NANCY BADERTSCHER
