A team of Emory University researchers will receive nearly $1 million over five years to develop new drugs for stroke as part of a National Institutes of Health initiative.
The effort is part of the federal agency’s Blueprint for Neuroscience Research. It includes seven teams of scientists nationwide -- focusing on stroke, vision and hearing loss, neurodegenerative diseases and depression. MISTY WILLIAMS

Atlanta attorney Bryan Cavan has been elected to a three-year term on the executive council of the National Conference of State Bar Presidents, the State Bar of Georgia said.
Cavan, of the firm Miller & Martin, served as president of the State Bar in 2009 and 2010. A resident of Newnan, Cavan received his law degree from Emory University in 1967 and specializes in business litigation. BILL RANKIN
