Households that earned $48,000 or less last year -- and pushing the deadline for filing tax returns -- can still have their taxes done for free through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, an IRS program that helps low- to moderate-income taxpayers. VITA is working at sites in Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, Cherokee, Carroll, Henry and Clayton counties, with many open through Monday, when taxes are due. Volunteers are in malls, churches, libraries and nonprofit offices, among other places.
