The two people killed Saturday night in an apparently drug-related shooting in southwest Atlanta have been identified as a local man and a man from South Carolina.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office on Monday identified the men as Charles E. Poole, 35, of Morrow and Michael McDaniel, 34, of Danzell, S.C.
Atlanta police on Sunday were talking to witnesses and canvassing the neighborhood around Glenrose Circle to find leads in the case that left two men dead at about 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Investigators believe the victims knew each other and their killers. "The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim came to the location to purchase marijuana," according to police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport. "Several suspects approached the victim apparently to rob him. The victim was shot and killed and another unidentified male was also shot and killed."
Police told Channel 2 it appeared both men were shot multiple times and there appeared to be a "significant exchange of fire."
A gray Mitsubishi was at the center of the crime scene. Police said it belonged to one of the victims. Both were found near the car.
Police said the suspects left the scene on foot and are still at large.
