The McDonough City Council voted at its June 6 regular meeting to adopt a resolution intended to keep the Henry County court facilities on the McDonough square.

The move was in response to recent comments by various members of the Henry County Board of Commissioners that moving the courts to county property adjacent to the county jail could be beneficial because of space limitations the courts currently have as well as security concerns in moving inmates to and from the courthouse every day. The council’s resolution calls for the establishment of a “friends of the courts” committee that would make recommendations and advance the effort to keep the courthouse downtown.

A question will also be placed on the November municipal ballot asking McDonough residents where they stand on the issue.
