March 1, 2012

The name of the 50-year-old pedestrian killed last weekend when he was struck by a vehicle was released by Marietta police Wednesday.

Eric L. Harder of Marietta died as a result of the injuries he sustained when he was hit by a silver 2004 Pontiac Grand Am on South Marietta Parkway near Rose Drive around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.

No criminal charges will be filed against the driver, 57-year-old Sheila Mize of Marietta, police said.

Investigators said Harder was struck while walking across South Marietta Parkway outside the crosswalk. He died during surgery at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, police said.

With help from the New York State Police, Marietta authorities were able to contact Harder's next of kin in Wellsville, N.Y., on Wednesday.

Harder was one of three pedestrians killed in separate incidents during a three-day span in Cobb County.
