The Marietta Citizens Police Academy will begin April 25.

The Marietta Police Department will soon offer residents an inside look on what it’s like to be a police officer.

The agency is now accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Police Academy, which kicks off April 25. This 10-week free program will give class members an overview of various units within the police department, including narcotics, SWAT, K-9, crime scene processing, traffic enforcement and more.

These classes have been held for several years, with at least two sessions occurring each year, said Marietta police spokesperson officer Chuck McPhilamy. The normal class size ranges from 20 to 25 people.

Classes will be each Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Marietta Police Department at 240 Lemon Street NE.

The academy is open to residents and business or property owners. Applications be picked up at Marietta police headquarters.
