UPDATE: Moe's Original Bar B Que passed a re-inspection with a perfect score Friday. No violations were noted.

ORIGINAL STORY (published Aug. 16): A barbecue restaurant failed a recent health inspection, Fulton County records show.

Moe's Original Bar B Que in Midtown scored a 57/U following the Monday evaluation. Scores below 70 are considered failing. Its prior score from last August, was an 85/B.

The restaurant chain has locations in 16 states; four are in Georgia, with one other metro Atlanta location in Roswell.

According to the report, the person in charge "failed to demonstrate active managerial control during the time of the inspection."

The manager was let go, according to owner Brett Mancuso. He also said many of the violations were corrected within 30 minutes of the inspection.

Mancuso said he’s put his “blood, sweat and tears” into his business, and to fail an inspection because of a few mistakes that could be quickly corrected is “disheartening.”

“We understand health codes and take it very seriously,” Mancuso said Wednesday. “We’re here to serve the community and the city, and we do more than our part to stay under health code regulation.”

Officials reported finding no soap in a hand sink and observing a fly land on uncovered corn bread in the main kitchen. Soap was added to the dispenser, and the bread was discarded.

Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of the original evaluation.
