A man carrying a pellet gun and three knives outside Cherokee Charter Academy was arrested Wednesday morning by deputies.
Two Cherokee County deputies who were handling traffic outside the charter school north of Atlanta confronted the man, who was wearing all black, because he looked out of place, said Sheriff Roger Garrison.
The man, 31-year-old Todd Christopher Grigg of Woodstock, attempted to run away, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies caught up with the man and arrested him.
Grigg was charged with four counts of possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a concealed knife and obstruction of an officer.
Grigg told police that two of his relatives attend the school, and he was waiting for a ride, Baker said.
Grigg said he ran from deputies because he knew he was armed and in a school zone, according to police.
The black and silver gun looked like an authentic handgun, but officers found it was a pellet gun after they apprehended Grigg, Garrison said.
Grigg was wearing black gloves, a black leather jacket and black jeans.
He appeared Thursday afternoon before a magistrate judge, who set bond at $10,000, Channel 2 Action News reported.
