A man was trapped in his car under a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon when a crash closed part of Jimmy Carter Boulevard at North Norcross Tucker Road.

The man was extricated and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett fire Deputy Chief Charles Wells said. He was in critical condition, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

“The car was wedged underneath the tractor trailer and the driver was pinned by the wreckage,” Rutledge said in an email.

Gwinnett firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free the man, who was unconscious. There were no other injuries.
