A 53-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday after he admitted breaking windshields and causing other damage to passing cars over a two-year period along John Ward Road in Cobb County, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Charles Samuel Lewis pleaded guilty to eight counts of terroristic acts and one count of influencing a witness.

Besides the prison sentence, Lewis was ordered to serve 13 years on probation as part of a plea agreement accepted by Cobb Superior Court Judge James Bodiford.

“I have no rational explanation for it at all,” Lewis told the court. “I really didn’t realize I was doing it.”

Lewis was accused of throwing or shooting objects at vehicles belonging to more than 40 victims. The law caught up with him after he shattered the windshield of a car driven by Kennesaw Mountain Park Ranger Anthony Winegar.

Winegar chased Lewis down and apprehended him at a local fast-food restaurant. A grand jury returned a 45-count felony indictment against Lewis.

Lewis’ attorney said his client suffered from depression and emotional issues and has completed anger management and Alcoholics Anonymous courses.

As a condition of probation, Lewis must continue to receive therapy, avoid contact with his victims and pay about $8,500 restitution.
