A Cumming man faces boating under the influence charges after a passenger on a pontoon boat fell into Lake Lanier and failed to resurface, officials said.
Rangers resumed the search for Kevin Theodore Husum, of Florida, resumed Sunday morning in the Three Sisters Island area of Lake Lanier.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources suspended the search Saturday night after the 23-year-old fell from a pontoon boat, went under water and did not resurface, DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said.
The boat operator, Kenneth Toller, of Cumming, has been arrested on boating under the influence charges and was in the Forsyth County Jail Sunday.
One diver experienced an injury during the search and is in good condition, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“The DNR Rangers and the Hall and Forsyth deputies are continuing surface searches and with sonar equipment around the clock, but the search area is large and the water is between 40 and 80 feet deep,” McKinnon said in a news release.
Four years ago this month, a Cobb County man drowned after jumping from a sailboat in the Three Sisters Island area. Alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor in that accident.
