Man drowns in Chattahoochee River

A man drowned Wednesday evening in a part of the Chattahoochee River that is a popular spot for swimmers.
Adil Chowdhury, 18, of Atlanta, was swimming with family and friends in the area known as Diving Rock when, according to witnesses, he disappeared, Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
A county dive team happened to be training in the area at the time, Cobb fire Lt. Dan Dupree said.
“They hollered and got our attention,” he said. “We were there with the right equipment and team.”
When divers initially failed to find Chowdhury, they called the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department’s dive team for help.
At 8:38 p.m., divers found the the man’s body in 16 feet of water, Dupree said. He was identified by his family.
Chowdhury is at least the second person to die in that part of the river since May 6. Diving Rock, which is off Sandy Point, is an area where swimmers can jump into the river. Last month, Cobb County police recovered the body of Aaron Asher Daniel, 18, of Duluth. And last April, rescue teams pulled the body of a 22-year-old Cherokee County man from the same area.
