A Douglas County man who died after falling from his roof may have been cleaning his gutters, police said.

Michael Bergmann, 51, was lying on the ground Wednesday night behind his Neighborhood Walk home when officers arrived, Villa Rica police said.

Bergmann was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of massive head injuries sustained in the fall, Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel told the AJC.

The man's death has been ruled accidental, and he was the only one home at the time he fell, Villa Rica police Capt. Keith Shaddix told the AJC.

Investigators found a ladder leading to the roof from the deck and tennis shoes on top of the roof, Shaddix said.
