A 29-year-old man was killed in a construction accident Tuesday at a Gwinnett County park, according to a media report.

William Jerry Davis of Gainesville died after he and another worker were pulled from a manhole at E.E. Robinson Park in Sugar Hill, the Gainesville Times reported.

Davis and others were doing grading and construction work near a football field, Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge told the Times.

One man went into the manhole to try to rescue Davis after hearing his cries for help, Channel 2 Action News reported. It’s still unclear how Davis got into the manhole, but Channel 2 reported that the men were overcome by a gas leak.

The rescued workers were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where Davis died, the report said. A third worker was able to get out of the manhole by the time rescue workers arrived.

Davis worked for Simpson Trucking and Grading in Gainesville, according to the Times.
