A Cobb County man accused of stealing from his elderly father-in-law has been re-arrested on additional charges, according to police.

Donald Eye, 53, was arrested last month after he allegedly stole the 83-year-old victim's identification and used it to open several credit card accounts, according to Eye's previous arrest warrant.

Eye also allegedly cashed $18,701.07 worth of checks from the sale of stocks belonging to the victim, who suffers from dementia.

Now, Eye faces additional charges, according to a new arrest warrant obtained by the AJC. Eye was re-arrested Friday and charged with two felony counts of theft by taking and one count of making false statements, also a felony, booking records show.

Investigators now believe Eye cashed two retirement checks, totaling more than $15,000, belonging to the victim in September 2010, the arrest warrant states.

The following month, Eye told the Cobb County Sheriff's Office that his father-in-law had been the victim of check forgery, according to police. Eye allegedly signed a letter stating the victim's ex-wife cashed a check fraudulently.

"Video evidence has shown that the accused is the individual that cashed said checks," the warrant states.

Eye was released Tuesday morning from the Cobb County jail after posting $5,000 bond.
