The employees of one Atlanta used car company had no trouble moving cars off the lot Monday -- especially after police came to do it for them.
Clayton County Police approached the employees of Atlanta Fine Cars, a used car company in Jonesboro after noticing 11 of their vehicles were parked in a street's right of way.
The company, which has a registered address at 7250 Tara Boulevard, parked 11 of its used vehicles bearing "for sale" signs on the sidewalk and street's discretionary area.
According to a news release, officers asked the company's employees to move the vehicles back to the company's property-- but the employees said they had no keys. They also claimed to not be able to reach the owner of Atlanta Fine Cars.
So Clayton County shifted gears for them.
The officers called a tow truck and began to impound the vehicles to remove them from the right of way. After taking five cars out of the right of way, Atlanta Fine Cars employees suddenly didn't seem so helpless.
"If you don't have the keys to a vehicle, and you attempt to tow them, it can be very difficult and sometimes damage the vehicle," said Lieutenant Tina Daniel, spokesman for Clayton County Police.
Daniel said after seeing the potential damage, the employees "suddenly found the keys to the car and were able to contact the owner", who arrived at the scene to accept the citations.
Efforts to reach Atlanta Fine Cars were unsuccessful Monday night.
"They probably parked the cars there to make them more visible to people walking and driving by," Daniel said.
Atlanta Fine Cars has several used luxury vehicles listed on used vehicle Web sites, including brands such as Rolls-Royce and Lexus.
"Even in sales you have to adhere to any county ordinances, " Daniels said. "It's an image issue and a safety issue."
