A man wanted in connection with an attempted killing in North Carolina was found dead Saturday after a nearly 14-hour standoff with Loganville police.

“At this point we don’t know whether it was self-inflicted or if he was shot by one of our officers returning fire,” Police Chief Mike McHugh told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

McHugh said officers were called to Richard Vincent Ferri’s home in the Pebble Point subdivision around 6:30 p.m. Friday after receiving a call from North Carolina authorities. When officers arrived at the residence on Granite Lane, the suspect, his wife and several children were standing in the yard.

Ferri, who was being sought on an attempted first-degree murder warrant, ran and barricaded himself inside the home, McHugh said.

“During the course of the night, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the officers,” he said. “Officers returned fire and [after] one of the two exchanges the suspect was either struck by officers returning fire or shortly thereafter shot himself.”

McHugh said the incident is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Neighbors said the suspect has two daughters – an 8-year-old and a teenager, both of whom were transported along with their mother to a safe place nearby.

McHugh said Ferri was found dead in a bathroom adjacent to a bedroom inside the home.
