The Lilburn City Council recently approved a rate increase for curbside recycling services. Each residential customer will see an increase of $.36 per month or $4.32 annually effective Jan.1. Advance Disposal, the city’s provider for trash and recycling, requested the increase.

According to city documents, Advance Disposal attributes an increase in recycling costs to “loss of Chinese exports, negative commodity prices, increased quality standards and higher capital costs.”

Currently, Lilburn has 3567 residential customers which will result in an increase of $7,705 for the 6-month period of Jan. 1 through July 1 for the remainder of FY20. The city will add the actual cost increase to residential tax bills in October 2020 to recoup up-front costs.
