Following a recent public hearing, the Lawrenceville City Council voted to deny a request by Compass Storage at 282 E. Crogan St. for a special use permit to allow for truck rentals. A similar request was denied in Jan. 2019.

The applicant is requesting a special use permit to allow for moving truck rentals through U-Haul. The 6.19-acre property is currently developed as a self-storage facility with an office at the front. The purpose of the request would include a truck rental option through U-Haul for existing tenants and other customers. Since the request had been previously denied, the applicant offered to limit the number of rental trucks to no more than two on the property at any one time.

Council members noted apprehension that the number of trucks could adequately be limited and concern that the city already has a number of truck rental businesses within city limits.
