Lawrenceville approves policy for accepting donations

At Lawrenceville’s March 23 city council meeting held by teleconference, the city council voted unanimously to create a donation policy to establish policies and procedures for acceptance of items that may be donated to the city. The proposed donation policy, based on one used successfully in Suwanee, establishes a framework for staff to evaluate the benefit, appropriateness, costs, etc. of accepting a donation.
The 5-page policy will allow the city to determine when a dedication of an item, object or monument is appropriate, and provides guidelines for donations as well as procedures for evaluating specific types of donations including trees and plants, landscape amenities, structures, furniture, and public art.
The donation policy also defines the responsibilities of the city versus the donor after acceptance of a donation.
