The Lawrenceville City Council recently approved zoning and permits that will help move forward a 156-unit apartment complex on Grayson Highway, just south of its intersection with Applewood Drive. The property is currently undeveloped, heavily wooded, with a stream meandering throughout the property.

The plan proposes seven, 3- to 4-story apartment buildings. No 4-bedroom units will be allowed and only 10 percent of the units will have 3-bedrooms.

During the recent public hearing, City Manager Chuck Warbington noted this project is one of several the city supports to help replace aging apartment complexes. The developer, One Street Residential, is working to ensure 25 percent of the units are subsidized through the Lawrenceville Housing Authority for affordable rental rates. Another 25 percent of the project will be rented at market rates, and the remaining 50 percent of units are expected to rent at a reduced rate, about $200 below market value.
