A husband and wife were killed and two others seriously injured when a driver ran a red light Wednesday morning on Ga. 316, police said.
The driver of an SUV ran the light and struck a car, killing both the driver and a passenger, on Ga. 316 near the intersection with Jimmy Daniels Road, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry told the AJC.
Diane Noles Stotler of Orange Park, Fla., and a passenger, 14-year-old Tyler Edwards, were traveling eastbound bound on Ga. 316 in an Acura MDX when they struck a Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Jimmy Daniels Road, Lt. Paul Cosper with the Georgia State Patrol told the AJC.
Stotler and Edwards were transported to hospitals for treatment, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Cosper said. Denghui Cheng, 58, and his wife, Caxia Cheng, 57, both died at the scene, Cosper said. The Chengs lived in Bishop, in Oconee County.
The wreck, which happened around 9:30 a.m., shut lanes of Ga. 316 in both directions for about two hours, Berry said.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck scene, located about 20 miles east of Lawrenceville.
