Three people, including two children, were confirmed dead after a head-on crash with a school bus in Newton County, Georgia State Patrol said Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Spring Valley Way and Highway 162 about 3 p.m.

According to GSP, the school bus was traveling southbound along Highway 162 when a BMW carrying five people crossed over into its lane and struck it head-on.

The BMW driver and two children were killed in the wreck, authorities said. An adult passenger was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center and another child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

No students were on the bus at the time of the crash and the bus driver was not injured, Newton County Schools spokeswoman Sherri Davis-Viniard said.

Troopers told Channel 2 Action News no one inside the BMW was wearing a seat belt.

No alcohol or drug use is suspected in the incident, GSP officials said.

Roads were blocked off as officials investigated the scene.

The victims’ names have not been released pending notification of kin.
