So what's with this Ronald T.W. King guy?

He turned his recycling bin into a coffee table and doesn't recycle because his contribution would "just be a drop in the ocean."

Dude doesn't get it. But the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' Office of Environmental Management hopes others will.

King is part of a statewide multimedia campaign to be launched Monday to educate the 25- to 34-year-old set. The campaign, YouGottaBeKidding.org, is designed to get Georgians to recycle more. This is the first statewide campaign to promote recycling.

King is one of several fictional characters who give their reasons for not recycling. Each character has a profile page and interactive features to let others tell them why they should.

Research shows that 45 percent of Georgians are not committed recyclers, with the largest number falling within that age range, said Randy Hartmann, director of the Office of Environmental Management.

Among the reasons people identified for not recycling is not enough time or it's inconvenient.

The campaign will be featured on radio, in print and online. Additionally, there will be T-shirts, text messages and coasters distributed to restaurants and bars. There's even a Facebook page.

"This is about getting people to talk about recycling," Hartmann said. "Once they start, they make it a habit. And once it becomes a habit, they're going to do it at home and work."
