The Kennesaw Police Department is accepting applications for its free Citizens Police Academy.

Kennesaw citizens will have the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of police responsibility, including police operations and community programs.

Among the topics will be the patrol function, criminal law, criminal investigations, traffic operations, court process, use of force and community policing.

Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings for 12 weeks.

The next class will begin on March 3.

Classroom lectures will encourage class participation.

All applicants must be 21 years old and be willing to submit to a criminal history check and a driving record check - necessary due to the sensitivity of the information to be presented.

This informational program will not give the training necessary to become a Certified Police Officer.
