Kennesaw city officials have renewed their participation in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to receive federal funding through Cobb County and the state.

The Kennesaw City Council voted 5-0 recently to authorize this CDBG agreement with Cobb from Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2023.

Every three years, Cobb County is required to requalify as an Urban County along with its cities so that the Cobb cities do not compete in the statewide funding program for these federal CDBG funds.

The federal money comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Over the last several years, the federal funding has been used for sidewalks and drainage improvements in various qualifying neighborhoods, according to Kennesaw City Manager Jeff Drobney.

Each year Kennesaw receives about $200,000 in this federal funding, Drobney added.
