Judge won't reduce bond in bestiality case
A judge Wednesday declined to reduce bond for a Doraville man accused of having sex with dogs and possessing images of naked children.
John David Norman, 56, has been in the DeKalb County jail since his arrest in June, when his bond was set at $110,000. Norman, the son of former longtime Doraville Mayor Jesse Norman, requested his bond amount be reduced. But DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gail Flake denied that request.
John Norman was arrested after an anonymous caller reported seeing him taking pictures of children at a local swimming pool.
Inside Norman's Bonnie Avenue home, Doraville officers found a videotape with footage of Norman having sex with two German Shepherds, according to an arrest warrant. Investigators also found a computer disc with images of naked children.
“These are very serious and disturbing charges,” Robert James, DeKalb County District Attorney, said in a statement Wednesday.
Norman faces charges of sexual exploitation of children, bestiality and aggravated cruelty to animals. Following his arrest, a judge issued a temporary protective order prohibiting Norman from coming in contact with children under 18, domestic animals and livestock.
