Registration opened Monday for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' archery-only deer hunt for disabled hunters at Allatoona Lake.

The youth hunt will run Dec. 17 and 18, and the hunt solely for hunters "confined to a wheelchair" will be Dec. 19 and 20.

Hunting blinds provided by McKinney Campground must be reserved.

Only bow-hunters 15 and younger are allowed to participate in the youth hunt. A parent or guardian with a valid Georgia Big Game license must accompany them.

The disabled hunt is also open to all Purple Heart recipients. Each hunter must possess a valid Georgia Big Game license. A non-hunting assistant may accompany each disabled hunter.

Reservations for both will be taken by phone or in person Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Nov. 4. The spots will be filled by lottery.

Any questions should be directed to the Allatoona Lake Operations Project Management Office in Cartersville.
