Two months after receiving its national accreditation, the Johns Creek Police Department has received state certification from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

“Very few new law enforcement agencies across the country are able to achieve both national accreditation and state accreditation in just two years,” said Louis Dekmar, president of the national Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) . “It usually takes any agency, no matter how old, three years to complete just the national process.”

Both the national accreditation and state certification programs were created to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by maintaining an extensive body of professional standards and assessing the agency on-site.

“The benefits to the Johns Creek community of having an accredited and certified law enforcement agency are many, including increased accountability and reduced liability,” said City Manager John Kachmar.

Launched in 2008, the Johns Creek Police Department serves the 70,500 residents and 2,000 businesses of Georgia's 10th largest city.
