The Johns Creek City Council has approved working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation when necessary to assist in police investigations involving internet crime and child exploitation.
The memorandum of understanding, for the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, comes into play in inquiries “requiring utilization of specialized units or equipment, including experts in the field along with the utilization of forensic investigations not readily available” to the city, according to a staff agenda report to the council.
Johns Creek can request GBI assistance when dealing with crimes of internet child pornography, child molestation, child exploitation, homicides, sex offenses and when participating in inter-agency task forces and/or joint investigations, staff said.
The agreement takes effect Jan. 30 and renews annually unless either party provides at least 90 days’ notice of termination or intent not to renew.
