Dani Grabol’s recent island-hopping venture in Hawaii was not about leisure.

"The trick is being comfortable being uncomfortable," the Atlanta woman told Channel 2 Action News today after she became the first woman to complete a grueling fitness event, the Epic 5 Challenge.

Grabol completed five triathlons in as many days on five islands in Hawaii. She began on Kauai with a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run. She went through the paces again on Oahu, Molokai and Maui before finishing at Kona on Tuesday.

Grabol trained for 10 months for the event, which began in 2010. And she raised about $12,000 for her coach's charity, the Kyle Pease Foundation.

In all, she covered about 700 miles, roughly the distance from Atlanta to Miami.

"Attitude of gratitude. I'm blessed beyond belief to have the opportunity to do this stuff!" Grabol posted on her Twitter account.
