A new indoor recreational facility will soon replace a former Walmart grocery store on the northeastern tip of Cobb County.
County Commissioners on March 19 approved a rezoning application from DDR Southeast Sandy Plains LLC to build Ignite Adventure Park in the Sandy Plains Village shopping center.
The development would be housed in 66,000-square-feet of space on 15.95 acres at the corner of Ga. 92 and Sandy Plains Road near the Cobb-Fulton border.
Ignite Adventure Park would include feature activities such as go-karting, wall and rock climbing, indoor trampolines and bumper cars. County commissioners approved the rezoning from neighborhood retail commercial to community retail commercial district because the proposal was not allowed under the existing category.
The shopping center is anchored by Movie Tavern and includes a few other restaurants and service-related businesses.

This new use would replace the Walmart Neighborhood Market, which closed in April 2017, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. According to county documents, the plan would include 683 parking spaces and proposes its operating hours to be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
County Commissioner Bob Ott, who represents the area, said one positive of the project is that it won’t feature any gas-powered bumper cars or go-karts. Ott said the developers will use all-electric vehicles, which he said will help cut down on noise and fumes.
He also said he is excited to see the vacant space, which has been empty for nearly two years, finally become home to a new tenant.
“It makes the whole shopping center look more vibrant,” he said.
