Hydrant tests in Woodstock may discolor water

Woodstock residents may notice temporary discoloration in the water coming out of their faucets as the Fire Department performs its annual hydrant maintenance through June 10.
The discoloration is not harmful to individuals, though city officials advise it may stain light-colored clothing. It is the result of sediment always present in water lines being stirred up during hydrant testing.
The Fire Department will flow each hydrant until the water is clear, officials said. However, the smaller lines that lead to each house may still have cloudy water. Residents are advised to let their taps run until the water is clear.
The maintenance, which also entails painting and greasing each hydrant, is necessary for the city to maintain its best-possible I.S.O. 1 rating, officials said.
