The Funderburk family, like a lot of other people, evacuated South Carolina recently to avoid Hurricane Matthew. When they went home to Charleston, they had a new member.
Anne Funderburk gave birth to an 8-pound, 15-ounce girl Thursday, one day after arriving at relatives' home in Peachtree City, according to a report in the Citizen of Fayette County.
The birth came at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, the paper reported.
“The neighbors are so helpful and the hospital was overwhelmingly great,” Peter Gores, Anne Funderburk’s father, told the paper. “The hospitality here is fantastic and we appreciate everybody.”
With his daughter due on Friday, Gores, who lives in New York, said he was heading south for the birth, regardless of the location.
The family headed for the home of relatives Chris and Jim Ward. At 4 a.m. the next day, Anne Funderburk said, “I think I should go to the hospital.”
The family got not only a new child, but some local hospitality.
“We couldn’t have picked a better place to go,” Gores said. “And we’re enjoying driving a golf cart.”
