The Henry County Zoning Advisory Board will not be increasing in size anytime soon, as a proposal to add a member was denied by the Board of Commissioners at its Aug. 6 regular meeting.
A resolution was considered that would have amended the Unified Land Development Code regarding ZAB membership and allow the Henry County Board of Education to appoint one member, bringing the total number of ZAB members to eight. Currently there is one appointee for each county commissioner and another appointed from the city of Hampton. The idea was discussed because of a May meeting between county zoning staff and school district officials, where it was pointed out that a regular comment during ZAB meetings is how residential rezoning and new developments impact local schools.
Several commissioners noted that the current communication between themselves and the school board is working well and there is no need for this change.
