The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted recently in a special called meeting to name Cheri Hobson-Matthews and Patrick O’Conner as the finalists for the county manager position. Lyndon Bonner was terminated in January shortly after three new commissioners took office. The board said at that time that it wanted to go in a new direction.
Hobson-Matthews is a 15-year county employee and longtime department head who currently serves as assistant county manager and previously was interim county manager while being a finalist for the top job when Bonner was hired in 2015.
O’Connor has more than 30 years of government experience and most recently was interim county manager in Fulton County after spending 18 years as Fulton County’s finance director.
The vote to name the two finalists was 4-2 with Gary Barham and Johnny Wilson voting against. The board is expected to make its final decision after the required 14-day waiting period.
